On WYART Programming & Weathervane Playhouse

“I would be crying if I wasn’t in shock.” was about all I could say this past Sunday.

This week I finally got to see and walk through the newest addition to Weathervane Playhouse, the Matthew Trombetta Artistic Wing. The added facilities, costume storage and rehearsal space, as well as the improved dressing rooms made every memory I had of this place flood back to me.

I’ve worked at Weathervane Playhouse since the spring of 2011, taking my first WYART acting class and being cast in my first production by Erika [Wills] and Brice [Corder], which threw me headlong into a passion for performance and the arts for the past 6 years. My life was changed by walking into the Children’s Theater in ways I never would have imagined. I’ve acted in national theatre tours, national television programs, traveled to perform in Alaska, worked with phenomenal actors, directors and designers and all of this stems from the influence of Matthew Trombetta.

I never got to meet Mr. Trombetta myself, but I am one of the many young performers that felt his influence from the passion and love that he had for the community and family that Weathervane was and still is. I and so many others, both on and backstage, have spent countless hours sweating, bleeding and working on this place that I call my theatre home because we all want to give to others the feeling of magic that theatre absolutely is.

I’m incredibly happy to say this Fall I’ll be teaching for WYART, Weathervane’s Young Artist Repertory Theatre, completing a full circle back to where I began as a performer. No other place holds so much to me than this theatre and the message it holds.

This place is my home, these people my family. This is all a gift, one that I hope to keep passing on.

Thank you, Erika, Brice, Kirsten and Jeniffer.

Thank you, Mr. Trombetta.

Jordon Phillips.
